

Photographs - Chapter OneNew Jersey, 1994. Auriella Arland was sullen. Her once golden curled hair hung limp and dry at her shoulders. She was far too thin, her skeletal frame visible bellow the shallow skin that was suitably pale as bone. Her eyes were darkened, worn and sunk deep into hollows of her skull. Auriellas hands were unsteady with daily tremors and her once perfect posture was now slumped over. She was a broken, bent leaf. She was an torn off-white. A slaughtered singing bird. She was spoiled. Auriellas cheekbones highlighted the loose skin around her lips, that were cracked and blue. Remember that day? The day you got your first bike. The day you met 'Santa' or the day you and your best friend had a fight? Sometimes the intentions of these photographs are obvious.
